The Association of British Insurers (ABI) has offered advice to Britons looking to stay cool in the heat.
As the mercury rises in the coming days, with 90 per cent of England issued with a heatwave warning, many people in the UK are worried about the impact higher temperatures could have on their health.
To counter this, the ABI has issued guidance that it said will help to reduce the number of insurance claims.
According to the body, motorists should make sure their car has enough vehicle oil and coolant levels, as hotter weather could cause engines to wear or seize up. This could potentially have fatal consequences if a car stops working at an inopportune time.
The ABI also advises drivers to carry a bottle of water with them at all times to prevent dehydration in the event of an accident.
It also told drivers to make sure tyre pressures and treads are adequate, as increased temperatures could have a negative impact on the quality of traction a car gets – with some areas reporting melting tarmac.
