Motorists have been strongly advised to check what their car insurance policies cover them for, especially leading up to Christmas.
The typical consumer will spend just under £500 on Christmas this year, with approximately £338 on presents and £152 on food, drink and entertaining. However, it is imperative that when customers are out buying such items, they take care to protect themselves from robbery.
Neil Rogers, head of insurance at Marks and Spencer bank, said: “This time of year means the car boot can become a target for opportunistic thieves. As such, it’s imperative that shoppers make sure they’ve got adequate vehicle content cover in place for their Christmas shopping, should the worst happen.”
With the average main food and drink shop set to cost £119, customers are encouraged to keep their shopping locked away in the car boot as opposed to on the back seats where they are in view. Customers are also advised to always lock their cars and ensure the windows are shut, as well as check their car insurance policy to ensure that they are adequately covered.
