Small businesses may consider insurance need during cold snap

Small businesses may wish to consider their insurance needs as freezing temperatures hit the UK.

Axa Business Insurance has recommended organisations of this size should take the necessary steps to protect themselves during the cold snap, as such conditions can have a detrimental impact on their ability to function as they normally would.

The provider explained snow and ice can bring many problems for small companies, meaning a contingency plan may be required to make sure things run smoothly even if managers or staff members are unable to make it into work.

Darrell Sansom, managing director of Axa Business Insurance – which provides cover for sole traders, the self-employed and firms that operate on a small scale – urged people to protect themselves and their businesses as best they can when temperatures begin to plummet.

Mr Sansom stated: “While the focus might be on simply keeping things going during the bad weather, there are many other potential hazards that business owners should be prepared for.”

Among the recommendations provided by the group were keeping the heating on low to prevent burst pipes, leaving extra time when commuting to work and carrying a shovel, blanket and food when out and about in the car.
