A scam which involves requests for money by a fake travel insurer has been uncovered and consumers are being warned to be aware and not be deceived by the bogus company.
A travel insurance provider, called Blue Swan Insurance, went into receivership back in 2005. However, it now appears that a company going by the name of Blue Swan Travel has been set up and is asking for funds from ex-customers.
The requests are said to ask for money that is owed and can be up to £10,000. Essential Travel, who uncovered the scam, have issued a serious warning and have said that anyone who receives such a request should seek advice.
The firm said: “Many of the former policy holders are vulnerable pensioners, and in some cases we understand that the sums being requested are in excess of £10,000. Essential Travel has been informed of at least one pensioner who has paid the requested amount.”
