Travel insurance provider Post Office has urged those heading on winter sports holidays to keep safe this season.
The company states that one in three travel insurance claims from UK holidaymakers on the slopes are for medical bills.
This means that an accident while on the piste could break the bank as well as bones if the unfortunate individual does not have adequate travel insurance.
Kevin McAdam, head of travel and leisure at Post Office, warned that a winter sport holiday is more dangerous than a trip to the beach.
“If an uninsured skier or snowboarder is injured on the slopes, they could be faced with a huge bill. For example, inpatient treatment with surgery can cost up to £50,000 in the USA.”
He adds that winter sports fans should make sure that they have adequate travel insurance cover for whatever activities they plan to undertake – “to avoid any painful and costly surprises this ski season”.
Paul Birkhead, underwriting manager at Halifax, recently warned that many first-time skiers may not be aware that they need additional cover for their seasonal jaunt.
