Older drivers would like to drive the cars of their TV heroes, a leading motor insurance company revealed.
The motor insurance book of Saga Motor Insurance unveiled the Jaguar XJ-S, driven by The Saint in the series of the 70s, as the most popular celebrity car. More than 200 drivers with Saga motor insurance have one of these.
Magnum PI’s Ferrari 308 also seems like it was a fashionable choice when the series aired in the 80s, as more than 6,000 were built in that decade.
Tubbs and Crockett – of Miami Vice – inspired drivers to buy a Testarossa, of which more than 7,000 were made.
Many drivers seem to have spy aspirations, as they drive around in James Bond’s cars. Famous 007 wheels include For Your Eyes Only’s Lotus Espirit Turbo and the Aston Martin V8 Volante, which Timothy Dalton drove in The Living Daylights.
The motor insurance company also found that many over-50s own rare and unusual cars, like the handmade Bristol Blenheim, the AC Cobra and the Bentley Continental, two of which are owned by Saga motor insurance policyholders who are in their 70s.
“These results demonstrate that we are young at heart when it comes to choosing our cars,” comments Andrew Goodsell, the chief executive at the motor insurance company,
“Once the children have left home and the mortgage has been paid off, it is a time for realising our dreams and getting the car you have always aspired to own,” he concludes.
