Shopping around can save on car insurance

People who shop around for the best deal on their car insurance could save around £372 as a result.

This is one of the findings of new research from Money Supermarket, which showed there are many ways in which road users can reduce the amount they are paying for cover.

According to the study, young people who add an older motorist who also drives the motor to their policy can make savings in the region of £165, while adding a partner can see the costs reduced by approximately £32.

Peter Harrison, insurance expert at the price comparison site – which was established as an offline business in 1993 – noted the expense of Christmas is likely to leave many individuals searching for ways to reduce their expenditure in the new year.

The industry figure stated: “Making savings on every day finances such as insurance can be made by shopping around and taking some easy steps to reduce premiums.”

Other suggestions from the portal include reducing mileage by car-pooling with a colleague from work and selecting fully comprehensive protection as opposed to third party only cover.
