Travel insurance company Halifax has claimed that 9.4 days is the perfect length of a holiday for Britons.

However, the bank also noted that around one million British holidaymakers begin to get homesick within four days of arriving at their destination – although men claimed to be less affected by the desire to return home.
Vicky Emmott, senior manager of underwriting at Halifax Travel Insurance, warned Britons that travel insurance is a vital consideration, particularly among those who are planning to take some home comforts with them.
“Travellers taking expensive DVDs and music abroad should also ensure that it is adequately covered should it be damaged in transit or stolen,” she explained.
According to the travel insurance provider, Britons should ensure that they know what they can and cannot take through customs before they set off.
Security has been tightened for holidaymakers flying to Spain, with new information required.
