Drivers in the UK could be wasting a significant amount of money on fuel by driving in an inefficient manner, one car insurance provider has claimed.
Yesinsurance.co.uk has claimed that the average motorist travelling 10,000 miles a year will spend approximately £1,500 on fuel in 2008.
However, Paul Purdy from the firm said: “Drivers can reduce their contribution to global warming and cut their fuel bill through simple alterations to their driving style.”
By avoiding fast acceleration, maintaining cars properly and controlling their speed, motorists can save up to 25 per cent on fuel, he explained.
In related news, a survey commissioned by car insurance firm esure discovered that petrol prices would have to exceed £1.83 a litre for drivers to give up their cars.
Mike Pickard, head of risk and underwriting at esure, said that driving “steadily and carefully” could help people travel more efficiently, while also reducing the chance of having to make a claim on their car insurance .
