London is home to 12 of the top 20 burglary insurance claim hotspots, according to new research.
While a Manchester postcode is the most robbed part of the country, Moneysupermarket reported that the capital dominated the rankings.
The M21 postcode, representing suburban Chorlton-cum-Hardy and Barlow Moor in Manchester, came top with 45.2 claims for burglaries per 1,000 residents. The SE24 postcode, which covers Herne Hill and Tulse Hill in south London, came in second place with 41.8, while Muswell Hill in north London (N10) was in third place.
Liverpool and Birmingham both had two entries in the top 20, while Leeds saw the greatest fall in the number of burglaries. There is only one LS postcode in the top 20 list, whereas two years ago there were five entries.
Home insurance expert at the price comparison site Kevin Pratt warned that just because somewhere is named a claim hotspot, it doesn’t actually mean it is not a nice place to live.
“Thieves often target areas with wealthy residents and desirable properties where the rewards are potentially greater, or quieter areas where they think there is less risk of being caught red-handed.”
