Ilford and Romford in London are the two most likely places in the UK for people to make a car insurance claim because of theft.
This is according to MoneySupermarket, which listed areas where people were most likely to report a stolen car, vandalism or the theft of contents from their vehicle.
On the other hand, drivers in Perth, Shrewsbury and Carlisle were the least likely to contact their insurance provider due to lower levels of crime.
Research from the company, which analysed 13.2 million claims over 12 months, also showed the most common type of claim made was for stolen vehicles (52 per cent), followed by vandalism (41 per cent) and content theft (seven per cent).
Peter Harrison, a car insurance expert at the firm, said: “Thieves often specifically target areas with a high number of cars parked on the street, such as urban areas where space is at a premium and fewer houses have garages.”
Other locations to feature in the top ten theft list include Dudley, Huddersfield, Bromley and Leeds.
