Home insurance could come in very useful for the many Brits looking to carry out home improvements on their property this August bank holiday.
New research from Halifax Home Insurance has shown that while 63 per cent of survey respondents intend to perform DIY in a bid to save money, a quarter of homeowners are uncertain whether or not their cover protects them for accidental damage.
It was also revealed that one-in-ten of those questioned have no home insurance whatsoever.
Martyn Foulds, senior claims manager at the provider, noted: “Homeowners who are trying to save cash by carrying out DIY are potentially risking hefty bills, so it is worth ensuring you have the right cover.”
Mr Foulds advised people considering more specialist jobs – which might include plumbing, structural, gas or electrical-related work – to call in the experts and make sure nothing goes wrong.
According to the investigation, while 77 per cent of people would feel confident carrying out a painting task, 11 per cent believe they would be able to fit a new kitchen and five per cent might have a go at installing a gas fire without expert assistance.
