Older consumers are being advised that taking out the cheapest available single trip travel insurance before going on holiday may not provide adequate cover.
Mike Powell, insight analyst for general insurance at research company Defaqto, said: “Failing to put proper thought into picking the right single trip travel cover deal may be the most expensive mistake you make.”
According to Mr Powell, buying insurance is a more complicated process for the over-50s because of the subject of pre-existing medical conditions and it can be a problem with some providers. He therefore recommends that older holidaymakers shop around to ensure they find travel insurance which is cheap and comprehensive at the same time. He explained: “You really need to consider, whilst the price is important, that the policy actually covers what you need rather than just taking out the cheapest insurance .”
His comments follow research published recently by LV= which revealed that over a third of holidays are now taken by over-50s.
