There could be £1,500 worth of goods in the average British family’s back garden and this figure can jump to £2,000 if items such as childrens toys are included.
According to Legal and General, most people concentrate on having their homes, vehicles and lives insured but it is just as important for gardens to be covered as their contents can be worth more than people assume.
Research from the firm revealed that garden furniture is worth an average of £300, barbecues are worth an average of £125, ornamental pots £120 and garden tools and lawnmowers are worth an average of £180 and £130 respectively. Garry Skelton, marketing director for Legal and General’s general insurance business, commented: “It is easy to forget the items we have in our gardens or outbuildings and just how their value may really add up.”
Research conducted by CompareTheMarket.com last year showed that one-quarter of Brits fail to include items such as barbecues, garden furniture and plants in their home insurance policies.
