Single parent families planning an Easter holiday are being warned to double check the small print of their travel insurance policy.
According to insurance provider American Express travel insurance, a number of family travel insurance policies do not cover separated and single parent families.
Families need to check the small print on their travel insurance policy to check how their insurance provider defines a family.
The report was carried out by the research company, Defaqto and co-author Brian Brown explained how one customer was not covered by his family insurance policy when he took his children on holiday, as he no longer lived with his children.
“It is concerning that not all insurers are recognising or reflecting in their policies the changing nature of families in the 21st century,” commented Joanne Field, marketing manager at American Express Travel Insurance.
“Travelling abroad with children can be stressful and worrying, however the best way to ease anxiety is a comprehensive insurance policy,” she added.
There are currently 1.7 million single parent families in the UK, who could face problems with inadequate travel insurance policies when taking their children on holiday.
