Bupa has been commended for its lack of jargon and gobbledygook in winning the Plain English Campaign’s web award.
The international healthcare group won the online clarity award for its website, bupa.co.uk. The Plain English Campaign Media Awards celebrates simplicity in public information.
Bupa.co.uk has fact sheets on medical conditions which range from angina to yellow fever, as well as information on health insurance and care homes . It has been praised for being written in language which is clear and coherent and for being easy to navigate. All Bupa’s information is written by professional health writers and approved by medical experts.
Chrissie Maher, founder of the Plain English Campaign, said the Bupa website came very close to ticking all the boxes for the campaign’s Internet Crystal mark. She added: “Getting older might make you wiser, but it doesn’t make it any easier to understand a pile of jargon and gobbledygook. When I’m not firing on all cylinders, the last thing I need is more stress when I need help.”
