Pack travel insurance with sun lotion, insurance company says

Many younger holidaymakers are setting off abroad without adequate travel insurance, Sainsbury’s Bank has claimed.

The insurance company found that more than three million travellers have gone on overseas holidays without taking out travel insurance, with the majority of them under the age of 24.

This is despite the fact that the travel insurance provider estimates that last year saw some 241,000 travel insurance claims being made for medical and hospital expenses alone.

“Travel insurance is essential for anyone going abroad, even if they are just planning a long weekend,” comments Karen Preston, travel insurance manager at Sainsbury’s Bank.

She specifically urged younger travellers to remember travel insurance before going on holiday.

Ms Preston said they should ensure travel insurance is on their “holiday ‘to-do’ list, along with sun lotion”.

The insurance company also found that older travellers over the age of 65 often neglect taking out travel insurance ahead of their holidays abroad.

Ms Preston said that by shopping around, travellers could find “quality cover at a competitive price”.

She pointed out that travel insurance policies offered by Sainsbury’s Bank offer premiums starting from £22.
