Young people considering working abroad urged to take out medical cover

Millions of young people are thinking of going overseas to work, suggests a new study.

Aviva's poll of 1,500 UK workers aged 18 to 45 (of whom 1,000 were under 30) found that younger respondents favoured medium term breaks, with 43 per cent saying a year would be long enough while a fifth would consider a three-year break from the UK.

They estimated that "semi-grating" or a "boomerang break" would mean a pay boost of, on average, 35 per cent. The most popular destinations for 18 to 30 year olds are Australia, the United States, Canada, Spain and New Zealand .

The findings indicate there may be new opportunities opening up for advisers to recommend health insurance for young expatriates . A quarter of respondents to the poll said the NHS is one of the things they would most miss, while nearly two thirds consider the UK has superior state health benefits over other countries.
