British holidaymakers are choosing cheaper prices and increased choice over travel agents and the traditional package holiday . However, a new report has warned that those creating their own holidays are often underinsured.
Research from M&S Money revealed that 50 per cent of Brits with an internet connection now choose the net to book holidays independently.
The study also found that 29 per cent of people book each element of their trip individually. The downside of this is that no one holds overall responsibility for any one trip and in the absence of a travel rep, the independent bookers are on their own.
M&S Money explained that traditionally, if an international flight was cancelled or delayed causing a traveller to miss a later connection, the travel agency would organise alternative arrangements. However, a series of flights booked separately would not all be covered by one travel insurance policy, most would only cover the initial international flight .
