An industry expert has said that people who are not planning to leave their hotel while on holiday still need holiday insurance .
According to a study by Halifax Travel Insurance every year 2.5 million UK holidaymakers take a package holiday to an exotic location, yet they only spend around seven hours, on average, outside of their hotel. In cases such as this, Halifax's Paul Birkhead said that it is still important that holidaymakers take out comprehensive travel insurance .
He explained: "Holiday insurance is still a necessity regardless of what you plan to do on your break. People intending to stay in the confines of the resort will still need cover as accidents can happen by the pool, your luggage can still go missing or your holiday can be cut short for unforeseen reasons."
People can be lulled into a false sense of security by thinking that because they are not going anywhere other than their hotel, they are immune from anything going wrong.
