Half of people in the UK have expressed concerns about how frequently they go running or play sport, according to new research from a health insurance provider.
In a survey from insurance company Legal & General for its latest health uncovered index, it has been discovered that 50 per cent of the population fear they are not doing enough exercise.
And over the last three months, 49 per cent of professionals in full-time employment have been concerned that their health is suffering because of a lack of exercise.
Commenting on the research, Vanessa Sallows, group protection business underwriting and benefits director at the insurance giant, reiterated the potential health benefits of taking part in sport more regularly.
"Being more active can make a difference to the quality of life we have," she said.
"Regular exercise, such as running, is an excellent way to improve fitness and general well-being."
The recommendation comes as 30,000 people prepare to compete in the London marathon on April 22nd 2007.
Alternatively, health insurance customers in the north of England may find it more convenient to participate in races such as the Manchester 10 km run on May 20th or the Edinburgh marathon on May 27th.
