Despite the fact one in six Brits will be jetting abroad this year for a stag or hen do, too few people are taking out travel insurance beforehand.
According to new figures from Confused.com, almost one-quarter of holidaymakers (23 per cent) have lost their friends on a night out and one in ten said they or someone they know has missed a flight home.
Theft is also a problem for party-goers, with stolen items including mobile phones (seven per cent), luggage (five per cent) and passports (two per cent).
Mhairi Edwards, head of travel insurance at Confused.com, said with increasing amounts of stag and hen parties being held abroad, it is important for people not to forget essentials like travel insurance.
She added: “Illness, accident, lost passports and missed flights can all put a financial and stressful strain on a trip, but having adequate insurance cover could help ease these problems.”
Research carried out by the price comparison website last month also showed up to one-fifth of travellers leaving the country over the Easter break did not have travel insurance.
