Caravan insurance customers should carry out certain checks before taking their tourer out on the road, it has been suggested.
A spokeswoman for the Camping and Caravanning Club – which provides facilities for almost three million holidaymakers each year and boasts more than 100 camps throughout the UK – explained owners need to think ahead when planning a holiday.
The representative explained there are a number of different areas where checks need to be made, including brakes, tyres, towbar, towing mirrors, noseweight and payload.
Failing to conduct these assessments could lead to all manner of mishaps on the road, which might lead for an insurance headache for those who have failed to adequately protect their vehicle.
The source stated: “As a driver, you are responsible for your vehicle and anything you tow so it is in your best interest to ensure both are well maintained.”
She recommended people make use of the Approved Workshop Scheme when servicing their caravan, trailer or motorhome, adding the Camping and Caravanning Club provides check cards for owners to download and use when assessing their vehicles.
