Consumers with car insurance for young drivers have been advised to check whether their brake lights are in full working order.
Drivers are likely to face more hazardous road conditions over the coming months, according to Ron Waldock, an independent RAC inspector at Carsite.co.uk. He suggests this is because the clocks are about to go back as the nights draw in for autumn and winter. Motorists are reminded that they need to be seen by other road users when it is dark.
Mr Waldock said: “Our advice would be to regularly check that all your lights are clean and working correctly to make sure you are as visible as possible.” He made his comments after research by Carsite.co.uk found that around one in 15 cars, motorcycles, vans and lorries are missing at least one brake light.
A BBC News report revealed that officials from Northampton Borough Council recently carried out a spot check of taxis in the area and took one off the road for not having any brake lights.
