Adventure holidaymakers ‘ignore travel insurance’

Some 16 per cent of people who take part in adventure holidays overseas do not take out travel insurance, according to research from AXA.

Commenting on this research, Pat Brady, travel insurance manager at AXA Insurance, said that travel insurance is a “necessity” for people who are holidaying overseas.

“Travel insurance does not have to be expensive, and it should help ensure that if you do encounter problems on holiday, the disruption and cost is kept to a minimum,” Mr Brady added.

The travel insurance manager also said that should someone be injured while enjoying their holiday could pay “thousands of pounds” on medical bills.

AXA’s study has also revealed the most popular active holiday pursuits among those who do not have travel insurance. Cycling topped the list, with 19 per cent of people planning to take to two wheels without adequate insurance cover over the next 12 months.

AXA operates across the world, with operations in western Europe, North America and the Asia/Pacific region.

In the UK it offers a range of financial services , including insurance , life insurance and pensions .
