Extra ten per cent cover for weddings from Direct Line

Direct Line is giving an automatic ten per cent extra in home contents cover before and after a wedding .

The insurance provider says that people have to take into account additional items such as outfits, favours and gifts that are present in the home around the time of a wedding and is offering the automatic extension for the four weeks before and after the nuptial date. Andrew Lowe, head of home insurance at the company, said: "It provides insurance for our customers when they need it most."

Onlyfinance.com. says the average cost of a wedding is now around £20,000 and rises on average by £2,000 a year. Marks and Spencer and other providers provide wedding insurance to cover potential accidents, such as damage to the wedding dress or cancellation if the company holding the reception goes into liquidation .

However, onlyfinance warns that wedding insurance will not cover a bride or groom getting cold feet and backing out.
