Black box continues to lower car insurance

Telematics policy holders could save more than £200 on their car insurance.

According to new research from Moneysupermarket.com, installing a black box in your car could knock up to 14.2 per cent (£212) off the cost of your cover.

The price comparison company found 15.8 per cent of motorists were offered such policies, out of the 12.2 million car insurance quotes it analysed.

Drivers in the 17 to 19 age bracket were most likely to be provided with the option to have a black box, with nearly half (48.8 per cent) offered this kind of policy, followed by 28 per cent of 20 to 24-year-olds.

Female motorists aged 17 to 19 were the most quoted for telematics, making up nearly a quarter of all policies. Drivers in this age group could make the most savings as well – as much as £438 each year.

Car insurance expert Kevin Pratt said installing the technology “not only provides an insurer with a greater knowledge of the driver, but it can also influence driving habits, as a user is more aware their driving is being monitored”.
