Two thirds of customers still insure cars separately

Just over two-thirds of UK car insurance customers still insure their cars separately.

This is according to research by by Be Wiser Insurance, which concluded that 67 per cent did not make the most of multibuy discount products made available by car insurance providers.

Some respondents to the study said they only ever considered changing their insurance when it was up for renewal and were not satisfied the amount of work they would have to put in would reap adequate savings.

Most car insurance providers, including Admiral and Direct Line, offer multibuy services – providing drivers a bulk discount on expensive premiums.

Mark Bower-Dyke, chairman of Be Wiser Insurance, said: “The results show that a great many of us out there are avoiding the perceived hassle of arranging multi vehicle insurance. The thing is, it needn’t be any hassle at all.”

Reports show more than half (51 per cent) of UK homeowners have at least two cars and therefore could be missing out on significant insurance savings.
