Car insurance discounts experience decline

There has been a marked reduction in the number of car insurance discounts on the market, new research has found.

Released by Quidco Compare, the study showed one-in-four consumers have noticed a fall in such offers of late, with providers appearing keen to limit offers in light of the incoming European Union rules preventing gender being used as a strategy for pricing.

In addition, it was demonstrated that fewer people are using comparison sites in order to get hold of the most competitive motor insurance deals, suggesting drivers are changing the ways in which they seek to obtain cover.

Andy Oldham, managing director at Quidco – which was founded in 2005 and aims to make buying insurance quick and easy – noted shopping around remains the best practice for those looking to get the best deals when protecting their car .

Mr Oldham stated: “Although price comparison sites search the market on your behalf, resulting in reduced premiums sometimes, you receive no further reward for the purchase of a policy.”
