Car insurance customers in the UK should not become complacent when it comes to safety on the road.
This is according to Paul Havenhand, head of insurance at Post Office Car Insurance, who was speaking in response to new figures from the provider that showed motoring accidents in the nation fell by 34 per cent between 2001 and 2011.
The research revealed the amount of collisions dipped across all UK regions during the ten-year period, with the biggest reductions seen in the north-west of England and the West Midlands, which witnessed dips of 44 per cent and 40 per cent respectively.
Mr Havenhead noted that while it is encouraging to see these numbers tumbling, motorists should keep safety a top priority when out and about.
“Measures to improve road surfaces, visibility on roads, car safety devices and performance have clearly had an impact, but drivers must take the necessary precautions at all times,” he added.
The expert pointed out particular care needs to be taken during hazardous weather conditions and when unfamiliar roads are being traversed.
