The government’s clampdown on car insurance claims related to whiplash injuries is gaining support, new findings have shown.
Carried out by MoneySupermarket.com, the study revealed 93 per cent of survey respondents welcome the move.
As part of the plans, victims of whiplash may find they are required to be looked at by an independent panel of medical experts.
According to the poll, 66 per cent of those questioned said they are in favour of the proposals because they believe compensation culture is spiralling out of control, while a further 27 per cent lent their backing to the scheme as they are fearful these claims are resulting in escalating protection costs.
Peter Harrison, car insurance expert at the price comparison website, which looks at the offers of 98 motor cover providers in total, noted false whiplash cases are adding around £90 a year to the price of a typical policy – an escalation families can do without in this current economic climate.
Mr Harrison stated: “We are fully in support of the proposals to tighten the rules around whiplash injury claims from car accidents as every driver is being impacted.”
