Home insurance customers residing in rural parts of the UK have been told to be on their guard against the possibility of theft.
New research from NFU Mutual has found criminals view these locations as easy targets at times when they are flooded with visitors – such as village festivals over the summer months.
According to the investigation, some thieves use these opportunities to scout locations for carrying out robberies, while others ask to carry out tasks for farmers and other inhabitants in order to plan burglaries.
Families residing in the countryside may therefore wish to review their keywordinsurance policies to make sure their belongings are protected from this kind of criminal activity.
Richard Percy, chairman of NFU Mutual, noted: “Countryside communities face an on-going fight against crime. Many farmers and country dwellers have spent time and money on upping security measures to protect homes and businesses from such criminals.”
Mr Percy advised homeowners to take simple steps – such as marking their most valuable possessions and making sure outbuildings are extra secure – in order to prevent themselves from suffering from irretrievable burglaries.
