Home insurance customers in the north of England affected by recent downpours have been offered flooding advice.
Aviva has listed a number of recommendations people can follow if their property was affected by the month’s worth of rain that fell in parts of Lancashire and West Yorkshire over the space of just one day at the weekend.
According to the group, householders should get in touch with their insurer as soon as possible and ensure they provide all relevant contact deals for future correspondence.
Individuals were also advised to steer clear of any electrics that may have been damaged by the water, while items potentially affected should be listed in order to make it easier to compile details.
Carole Gallagher, head of property claims at Aviva, noted: “Flooding is one of the most traumatic events that a homeowner can suffer and for many people it will be the first time they have had to make a claim.”
Ms Gallagher explained the provider’s teams are visiting homes affected by flooding and are assessing damage levels before arranging for drying equipment to be sent to properties in need of such devices.
