Caravan insurance customers looking to keep their tourers safe from thieves can follow a few simple steps in order to prevent their vehicles being targeted.
A spokeswoman for the Caravan Safety and Security Group – which is a partnership between the National Caravan Council, the Caravan Club and the Camping and Caravanning Club – has highlighted three golden rules owners should follow.
The representative explained caravanners need to make sure they attach security devices to their models, move valuables out of sight and remain vigilant at all times, even during holidays .
While people often immobilise their tourer when keeping it stored away, they may wish to reduce the likelihood of theft by following the same procedure when stopping for much shorter periods – such as when calling in at a service station.
The industry figure stated: “Make sure your caravan can’t be easily towed away by using hitchlocks, locking wheel-nuts and a good quality clamp on the caravan wheels.”
She added tracking devices can help police or system operators to retrieve the vehicle should it be stolen.
