Flood victims should contact home insurance provider immediately

People whose homes have been affected by flooding should contact their keywordhome insurance provider as soon as possible.

This is the advice given by Lloyds TSB, which revealed incidents of this type typically result in £17,000 worth of damage.

Research carried out by the organisation showed heavy downpours in June led to a 52 per cent jump in weather-related home insurance claims when compared with the same month last year.

Lloyds TSB recommended those impacted by rising water levels should report any damage to their provider at once and take photographs of the affected items in order to make settling a claim a simpler process.

Individuals should also keep hold of all damaged belongings just in case their insurer wishes to inspect them.

Martyn Foulds, senior claims manager at Lloyds TSB, noted: “We are advising homeowners who are at risk to take steps now to reduce the risk of damage to their homes and to monitor local news and weather updates.”

The organisation also recommended householders should keep a home emergency kit – including sandbags, torches and warm clothing – in case of a repeat of such events.
