Motorists need to think about car insurance needs

Motorists in the UK should think long and hard about their car insurance needs prior to committing to a policy, it has been suggested.

MoneySupermarket recommended individuals need to be aware of what their fully comprehensive policy truly covers, while also advising them to shop around in order to find a deal that is best suited to their personal needs.

The price comparison website explained cover levels can vary significantly, with the costliest agreements not necessarily resulting in the best policies.

It explained a number of arrangements omit considerations such as protection for medical treatment, emergency accommodation and car replacement, while the majority of options only include legal cover as an add-on extra.

Pete Harrison, car insurance expert at MoneySupermarket – whose website was launched in 1999 – said exclusions may be more common than people assume when it comes to this form of cover.

The industry expert added: “It is vital motorists scour the small print with a fine tooth-comb, to ensure their policy has the level of cover they need to avoid getting caught out.”
