Female car insurance premiums have begun to climb, new research has shown.
Carried out by Gocompare.com, the study revealed these prices have started to edge up with a week to go before the European Court of Justice’s ruling on gender equality comes into play.
According to the findings, the average best price for all female car insurance premiums has risen from £748 to £862.
Scott Kelly, head of motor insurance at the comparison site, said a number of insurers are now implementing rate changes – representing the first real sign of such movement for the last 23 months.
Mr Kelly explained the majority of providers are likely to leave full equalisation until the last minute, adding: “We are not going to see the real impact of the ruling on the best prices available until December 21st.”
The expert pointed out companies may exit the market on a temporary basis as they wait for costs to settle down, which will allow them to select their price points.
As a result of this, the number of insurers providing cover for drivers of certain ages could be set to decrease.
