Drivers need to be wary of cyclists on the road

Drivers need to be on the lookout for cyclists when they are behind the wheel.

Neil Greig, director of policy and research at the Institute of Advanced Motorists, noted there are likely to be a lot of bike riders who do not have the right skills post-Olympic Games .

Because of this, car insurance holders should be aware of what is going on around them to reduce the chances of being involved in an accident.

“You would not take up a new hobby or sport without thinking about training too, so look into cycle training to get you up to speed with modern traffic conditions,” Mr Greig remarked.

Moving forward, he would like to see the introduction of better cycle lanes and other safe sharing facilities.

It comes after road safety charity Brake called for the implementation of 20 mph speed limits for built-up areas.

Indeed a survey carried out by the group discovered 74 per cent support the introduction of 20 mph zones, as it is viewed as a way of improving security for both walkers and cyclists.
