Association of British Insurers launches travel guide

Around 15 million people from the UK are expected to go on holiday abroad this year and the Association of British Insurers (ABI) has published a travel guide to help consumers understand how travel insurance policies work.

The different types of insurance that are available can be confusing and can leave consumers unsure about exactly what they are covered for and what they are not. Recently there has been an increasing trend for people to skip taking out any insurance cover at all.

Nick Starling, ABI’s Director of General Insurance and Health, said:
“This guide points out what standard travel insurance policies will cover and why it is needed.”

The ABI points out that it is essential to choose a policy that covers people’s needs rather than just picking the cheapest one. They also state that any medical conditions must be disclosed in order to make a claim if a person is taken ill when they are abroad.
