Shelter to receive a donation from every home insurance policy taken out with the Co-op

The Co-operative Insurance has joined forces with housing charity Shelter to try and raise up to £250,000 for the organisation.

Shelter will get a £5 donation from the insurer for every new home insurance policy taken out between 1 October 2010 and 31 January 2011. The money received will go towards Shelter’s work with homeless and badly housed people across the UK this winter. Consumers taking out insurance policies with the Co-operative can acquire discounts of up to 16 percent by purchasing online.

Louise Parkes, Director of Fundraising at Shelter, thanked the Co-operative for taking part in the scheme. She said: “This special partnership will make a huge difference to some of the thousands of families who contact Shelter every year suffering the devastating effects of homelessness and bad housing.”

The charity has noted that the Audioscope Music Festival in Oxford is now entering its tenth year, having raised around £20,000 for Shelter since its launch in 2001.
