The average cost of boiler breakdown cover has increased by 13 per cent over the last year and most breakdown insurance costs 20 percent more now, according to uSwitch .
During the last twelve months, the cheapest annual plan has risen by £13 but still comes in at less than £80, reports the price comparison site . Taking out this type of cover is still considered to be a cost effective way to safeguard against unexpected boiler repair or replacement bills, especially for those who would struggle to meet these bills otherwise.
Ann Robinson, Director of Consumer Policy at uSwitch.com., advises: “With household budgets continuing to be stretched, consumers may be tempted to make savings wherever they can. While sensible cutbacks such as delaying switching the heating on and turning the temperature down slightly will help save money without any serious side effects, going without boiler cover could leave you in a very difficult position financially if your boiler packs up.”
