Saga is urging older travellers to declare everything they need to on their travel insurance forms as their policy provider is obliged to know all their details.
A spokesperson from the financial services provider said that it does not mean that people will be denied cover if they mention an illness . He explained that an underwriter needs to be aware of the risk before an appropriate price for a policy can be offered and equally, a traveller needs to know what they are covered for while on holiday . He said: “It is important to make a full declaration to your insurer and to read the cover so you understand what you are buying.”
The representative made it clear that he felt leaving any information off of an insurance form is deceit, which would result in the policy becoming invalid.
Recently, figures released by Age Concern Insurance Services revealed that the highest claim it has paid out is £117,000 when somebody had heart failure in the United States . This included medical expenses, repatriation costs and cancellation and curtailment fees.
