High street banks may not offer adequate travel insurance for older people

Older people may be getting less travel insurance than they hoped for if they opt for the holiday cover offered within packaged accounts from some high street banks .

It is essential to compare travel insurance deals especially as study conducted by Saga Travel Insurance revealed that the over 50s may not get the best deal if they rely on the travel insurance available from some high street banks . Saga also found that those over 70 may not even be eligible for travel cover at all with Barclays, Halifax and HSBC .

The travel packages offered by many banks do not provide cover for pre-existing medical conditions, unless the policyholder has called to declare this and the bank has agreed to cover it. Saga urges the over 50s to check that their travel insurance includes a level of cover to meet their needs.

Andrew Goodsell, Executive Chairman Saga Group, said: “At Saga we believe that all over 50s should have access to comprehensive insurance policies .”
