With the main wedding season now upon us, it is essential that couples insure their wedding gifts through home insurance or wedding insurance cover.
According to research from Direct Line, wedding gifts can add several thousand pounds to the value of contents insurance in a home that belongs to newlyweds. Guest spend, on average, just under £80 on wedding gifts and around 3 per cent were found to have spent over £500, even during the current credit crunch .
However, it’s not only the wedding gifts, a wedding couple spends around £4,000 as they prepare for their wedding on items such as rings, bride and groom’s outfit, attendant outfits, including bridesmaids, photos and gifts for the wedding party.
Head of Home Insurance at Direct Line, Andrew Lowe, said: “The value of home contents can quickly rise around the time of a wedding. It will be a shrewd newlywed who checks their insurance policy to make sure that all of their purchases and gifts are protected in the event of loss, damage or theft.”
