Travellers could save money just by checking their home insurance cover, reveals Direct Line .
According to the insurer, many people going abroad put aside a budget for duty free shopping . Each year, thousands of people take advantage of the VAT free items, such as cigarettes, alcohol and perfume at airports and on ferries, but can often end up paying twice to have them insured.
Many holidaymakers take out travel insurance, which will also cover them for baggage loss, however if a home insurance policy includes all possessions, then cover could already be in place for losses of any new duty free bargains.
Chris Price, from Direct Line, is warning travellers not to forget their travel insurance, which could be essential in case of an emergency while abroad.
He added: “For those planning to go away this year there are savings to be made, ranging from the usual tax-free treats at the airport, through to early bird bookings.”
