Pets are going without treatment they need because their owners do not have pet insurance and cannot afford the vets bills, says Sainsburys Finance .
As a result of the credit crunch, many cats and dogs are being denied treatment recommended by their vet because their owners do not have sufficient funds, with an 80 per cent majority of vets saying that a pet in their care has gone without treatment for this reason.
The research found that illnesses or medical conditions are afflicting many animals which are not getting the medical treatment that has been recommended to them, which highlights the importance of pet insurance .
Neal Devine, manager of Sainsbury’s pet insurance, said: “It is heartbreaking to think that so many cats and dogs are having to go without recommended treatment simply because their owners can not afford the cost. Vet fees are rising and for those without pet insurance, this could mean there’s a good chance this scenario could be faced by many more owners and their pets.”
