Esure creates 500 jobs in Glasgow

The car and home insurance provider, esure, has said that despite the effects of the recession, it will be recruiting 500 new workers in its Glasgow offices.

The company revealed that its “rapid sustained growth” from last year means that it has to take on extra service and claims staff to keep up with business expectations in the years to come. Peter Wood, chairman of esure, said: “In these terrible economic times, I’m absolutely delighted to be able to make a commitment to Scotland and to Glasgow.”

This view was shared by Alex Salmond, the first minister of Scotland, who welcomed the move. He added: “This is a ringing endorsement of one of Scotland’s greatest strengths, our human capital.”

Esure, which was established by Mr Wood in 2000, also owns the brand Sheilas Wheels . Along with vehicle and household contents insurance, it also provides cover for holidays and pets .
