A drink-drive conviction will markedly increase cost of car insurance

Motorists heading out parties over the festive season have been warned of the risks that are involved with drink-driving by a price comparison site .

After analysing over three million insurance quotes for drivers with drink-driving convictions, moneysupermarket.com
found that men in their 30s, living in central London, were the most likely to have a conviction for driving under the influence. It was also revealed that a DR10 conviction could add up to 75 per cent onto the cost of an annual premium.

Steve Sweeney, head of motor insurance at moneysupermarket.com, said: “The rules of the road are there for a reason; motorists who get in a car having consumed alcohol will find that their reaction times, coordination and judgement will be impaired.”

Getting the right home contents insurance is essential at this time of year, according to moneysupermarket.com, as expensive gifts could considerably increase the value of the contents, however some policies will not provide extra cover for them.
