The Post Office has revealed that about one in three UK tourists do not give adequate consideration to their travel insurance policies .
A recent survey of British holidaymakers showed that 25,000 people go on holiday without the appropriate level of medical insurance cover they require.
The study also showed there to be a rising number of Britons travelling abroad to find cheaper medical treatment, either for health or cosmetic reasons. However, 36 per cent of those in search of such treatment are not checking to see if they are fully covered to undergo medical procedures abroad.
Helen Warburton, head of Post Office Travel Services, commented: “It’s important to check exactly what the specialist insurance covers over and above medical treatment.
“Travellers may still require traditional travel insurance to cover any potential lost baggage, delayed flights or flight cancellation.”
Holidaymakers travelling during unsettled weather conditions are being urged by specialist provider RIAS to ensure they take out travel insurance.
