Brokers can help confused insurance customers

The British Insurance Brokers Association (Biba), has advised consumers that are worried about taking out an insurance policy that covers them for things they don’t require to consult a broker .

Biba says that many policies seem confusing as they are now more comprehensive and cover for all different kinds of eventualities. A tailor-made policy is often the most suitable option, suggests Graeme Trudgill, Biba technical and corporate affairs executive.

He said: “The broker would be the best person to advise individual customers on the cover that they need depending on individual circumstance. If people understand and are quite happy to live with the fact that some of the cover they have is not for full replacement value, for example, then the broker will be able to tailor-make policies for those requirements.”

Mr Trudgill added that rather than consumers putting aside money on a monthly basis, it was a question of consumers having a choice between the belt-and-braces type of contract and a bespoke contract.
